This year’s CBSE board exams is yet to spring a surprise - Monday’s history paper was also a balanced one with good scoring options. Even the value-based question was sourced from the chapter ’Rebels and the Raj’, maps didn’t pose any problem. While students found the paper manageable within the stipulated time, teachers found the difficulty level balanced across the three sets for the students who have studied the syllabus thoroughly.

"It has been a fairly balanced paper in terms of length and difficulty. The questions on maps and values should not have posed any problem. With quite a few direct questions, scoring marks would be comparatively easy," said Shuchi Bajaj, history teacher of Springdales, Pusa Road.

The value-based question picked the passage on Nawab Wajid Ali Shah being dethroned and exiled to Calcutta and the resulting widespread grief in Lucknow. The students were asked to explain why people bemoaned and showed an emotional upheaval, and what human values were revealed in the passage.

"As all the questions are from the textbooks and nothing was critical, the students should score good grades in this paper," said Shalini Rastogi, history teacher of Ahlcon International, Mayur Vihar.

The exams for science subjects starts on Tuesday with physics. It will be followed by chemistry on March 11.
