Coronavirus Pandemic: CBSE to Conduct Board Exams Only For 29 Main Subjects, Promotes Class 1 to 8 Students

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to directly promote all students of Classes 1 to 8 to the next class in view of the nationwide lockdown due to the fast growing coronavirus COVID-19 in the worldwide. Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ’Nishank’ gave this information by tweeting.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has asked these schools that students of class 9 and 11 will also be promoted to the next grade based on the school based assessments, projects, periodic tests, term exams conducted so far.

For any child who is unable to clear this internal process in any number of subjects, the school may utilise this period for providing remedial interventions, and school may give the opportunity of appearing in school-based test, online or offline. The promotion of such children may be decided on the basis of such tests.

The Board will conduct examinations for only 12 main subjects that will be required for promotion and maybe crucial for admissions in higher educational institutions. Whenever, the CBSE Board is in a position to hold examinations, it shall conduct examinations for the 29 subjects by giving adequate notice. For the rest of the subjects, the Board will not hold examinations and the instructions for marking, assessment in all such cases shall be separately issued by the Board.

The CBSE also announced that it will not conduct pending class 10, 12 exams in schools affiliated to the board in foreign countries. The system of marking, assessment for the purpose of declaring results will be worked out by the Board shortly and informed to these schools.
