In a bid to acquaint students with Indian culture, heritage and traditions, the Central Board of School Education ( CBSE) has decided to introduce a new elective subject for classes 11 and 12. It will include subjects like astronomy in India, life science, Indian literature, ayurveda, chemistry in India, Indian philosophy, Indian metallurgy and traditional practices in environment conservation.

This subject will include 30% weightage for research project and viva and students will get a chance to go to places of historic significance. While students who are interested in the subjects are happy with the move, those who want the education system to be more crisp and career oriented condemned the step as irrelevant.

Radhika a student of Class XII said, "Subjects like astronomy, life science and Indian dance and drama are quite interesting."
