Doing a flip-flop in its own decision of authorising schools to set the tenth board question paper, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has now decided to provide sample papers to the schools for setting the summative assessment- II question paper.

The board has informed its affiliated schools that it will be providing a set of two question papers for the summative assessment- II which will be held for Class 10th students in March.

However, the board had earlier asked schools to set the question paper internally so as to avoid the practice of "teach to test".

"We have received a circular from the board stating that it will be providing sample papers for SA- II. Although it is not mandatory to follow the same questions as proposed by the board schools were earlier informed that no sample paper will be provided in this session at all," said Sahodaya Indore cluster chairman Sriniwas Rao.

The board has stated that it will provide the sets of question papers to schools in order to ensure standards.

"The board will support schools to generate online question papers in major subjects with effect from this session," the circular states.

CBSE earlier provided CD’s containing the sample papers to schools.

Sources claimed that the board had discouraged the sample paper practice citing that teachers centralise their teaching around the questions of the sample paper due to which the learning of students is hampered. CBSE has asked schools to complete the school based assessment before March 31 and after the board- based examination concludes.
