Teacher Eligibility Test known as TET is an entrance examination which is a mandatory exam for being appointed as teachers in government schools from Class 1 to Class 8.

Candidates looking to appear for TET have to appear for Paper I and Paper II. While Paper I is meant for candidates opting for selection to Class I to Class V, Paper II is meant for candidates opting for Class VI to VIII.

TET is conducted by both Central government and State governments across the country. In order to fulfill and achieve Right to Education goals, TET was introduced by the government of India.

In accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 23 of the RTE Act, one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in any of the schools is that he/she should pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) which will be conducted by the appropriate Government as per the Guidelines framed by the NCTE.

Aim to include eligibility test as minimum qualification for teaching is as under:

To introduce national standards and level of teacher quality in the recruitment process,

To stimulate teacher education institutions and students from these institutions to develop their performance standards and
