The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced major changes in the exam pattern and marking scheme for the Class 10 and 12 board exams in 2024. The changes are aimed at making the exams more competency-based and to reduce the emphasis on rote memorization.

CBSE Board to Increased Number of Competency-based Questions:

In the CBSE 2024 board exams, 50% of the questions in Class 10 will be competency or case-based questions, 20 percent of questions will be response type, 20 percent MCQ questions and 30 percent will be constructed response questions (short answer/long answer type questions).

In Class 12 board exam, 40% of the questions in Class 12 will be competency or case-based questions, 20 percent of questions will be response type, 20 percent MCQ questions and 40 percent will be constructed response questions (short answer/long answer type questions).

The CBSE has introduced new question types, such as case-based questions and response type questions. Case-based questions require students to analyze a given situation and apply their knowledge to solve a problem. Response type questions require students to write a short answer to a question in their own words.

Candidates would have to write answers to 15 to 35 questions in three hours.

The CBSE has also released sample papers for the Class 10 and 12 board exams in 2024. The sample papers give students an idea of the new exam pattern and marking scheme.

Students should carefully study the CBSE Sample Papers and prepare for the new exam pattern and Marking Scheme. They should also focus on developing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
