BMS College of Engineering Admission 2020: Fast Facts
The application process for UG programmes starts in February whereas the admission process for MBA and MCA programmes begins in January every year. The mode of the application process of the college is offline. The admission to most of the programmes is based on the scores in entrance exams or through management quota. A candidate belonging to SC/ ST/ Category-I/ differently-abled or any other reserved category shall have a relaxation of 5% in the minimum prescribed qualification for the general category.
UG Courses:
• Admission to BE programme is done through KCET/ COMED-K scores. Lateral entry is also offered for BE programme
• Candidates are selected in the BArch programme on the basis of NATA/ JEE Mains Paper 2
• Candidates can get direct admission to BTech and BArch programmes through management quota
PG Courses:
• BMS College of Engineering offers MBA, MTech and MCA programmes at the postgraduate level
• Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in relevant subjects to get eligible for the PG programmes
• Admission to MTech/M.Arch programmes is done on the basis of GATE score or PGCET of Karnataka
• Candidates must have a valid score in KMAT/ CMAT/ MAT/ PGCET to get admission to MBA programme
• Candidates are selected in the MCA programme on the basis of the marks obtained in KMAT/ PGCET exam. The college also offers lateral entry for MCA programme
PhD and MSc (Engg) Courses:
• Admission to PhD and MSc (Engg) programmes is based on the University-conducted entrance exam (VTU-ETR)
• Candidates qualified in the UGC-NET (including JRF)/ UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/ SLET/ GATE/ CAT or other similar national tests are exempted from the entrance exam
Becoming a Civil Engineer
Aspiring civil engineers should complete a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related specialty. However, they should make sure that they only enroll in programs that are ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) certified. This is essential in order to qualify to obtain a license. A bachelor’s degree takes four years to complete. It covers courses like engineering mechanics, mathematics, statistics and fluid dynamics.
Civil engineering students may specialize in areas like geotechnical engineering that focuses more on building structures, structural engineering for dams and bridges and transportation engineering for streets, highways and everyday systems.
After completing a bachelor’s degree, civil engineering graduates should take the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination that will grant them the title of Engineer-in-Training or Civil Engineering Intern if they pass. Depending on the state, they may need to pass more exams, undergo training and meet other requirements so that they will be eligible to become a CE Professional.
