The Medical Council of India (MCI), Apex body which regulates the Medical Education, declared National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for All India Medical and Dental admission from this year 2017. The syllabus will be 50% syllabus of XI standard and 50% of syllabus from XII standard of subjects of Biology, Physics and Chemistry. This test pattern has been planned as objective test only. NEET is being conducted exclusively for the 15% of the total merits positions for the Medical / Dental Colleges run by the Union of India, State Govt.s, Municipal or other local authorities in India.
Pursuant to the Notification published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 21st December, 2010, the Medical Council of India with the approval of the Central Government amended the regulations on Graduate Medical Education 1997 and made provision for a Single Eligibility cum Entrance Examination, namely, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to MBBS Course in each academic year.
The Dental Council of India also amended the BDS Course Regulations 2007 and notified in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 31st May, 2017 that admission to BDS Course in each academic year shall be through National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India have notified that the Central Board of Secondary Education shall be the organization to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for admission to MBBS and BDS Courses.
