  • The company rule affected each and every section of company rule. It left the people impoverished and both the Indian economy and the princely states were totally ruined.

  • Some new leaders that came to the forefront during the revolt of 1857 were: Bakht Khan from Bareilly, who took charge of a large force of fighters who came to Delhi and Ahmadullah Shah from Faizabad who raised a huge force of supporters.

  • The revolt of 1857 was unprecedented as: It was the first battle for freedom against the British rule in India and it brought together soldiers of different regions of India. Also Many other sections of the society such as the landlords, peasants, artisans and scholars joined for the first time and left an impact on the English rule.
  • The British asked the Indian sepoys to use cartridges made of pig and cow fat in wars which hurt the religious sensibilities of the Muslims as well as Hindus of India leading to discontent and rage among the sepoys against the British.
  • The sepoys were also unhappy about their pay, allowances and conditions of service which again violated their religious beliefs.
