CBSE is planning to start a course on human rights and gender studies

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to introduce a course titled �Human Rights and Gender Studies� as a new elective for classes XI � XII.

The salient features of the Elective Course are to:
1. Strengthen the of respect for human rights, gender and fundamental freedoms;

2. Holistic development of the human personality and the sense of its dignity;

3. Promotion of understanding, tolerance, gender equality, and harmony amongst all;

4. Enabling of all persons to participate effectively in a free, just and more humane society

The course is being introduced as a pilot course on first come first serve basis to 50 schools in class XI from the current academic session 2013-2014. It can be offered as an elective subject with any combination of three other electives and a language. It will have a 70 marks theory paper with 30 marks for case study based project and viva voice.
