Admissions-- International Students

SMU welcomes applications from International Students with good academic potential and talent in other areas. To be considered for admission, applicants generally should have at least 12 years of education and have taken a recognised national/international examination.

International students are required to submit the SAT I: Reasoning Test scores. This is a compulsory requirement.

**As the SAT I: Reasoning Test may not be available in China, Chinese applicants are expected to take GMAT.

Applicants whose first language is not English must show proficiency in the English language (TOEFL - minimum score of 550, or IELTS - minimum overall band of 6.5 or MUET - minimum 5 or 6). Please visit the TOEFL and IELTS websites for more information. TOEFL applicants should indicate the code number 9014 on their answer sheets. A copy of your TOEFL scores will be sent directly to SMU.

Applicants with good pre-university qualifications will be considered for Advanced Standing at SMU. Students with Advanced Standing may be granted exemptions of up to 5 courses. Advanced Standing is only granted when a student has been offered a place and SMU has evaluated relevant academic certificates.

Shortlisted international applicants do not have to come to Singapore for the admissions interview. The interview may be conducted via telephone or by an SMU representative in their country. Essay writing can be done via email/fax.

Off-campus housing is currently available for our students. The student cluster-housing is located at College Green, a 10 min walk from the university. Please click for more details.

Foreign students must possess a valid Student's Pass to be able to study at SMU. SMU will assist in the application of student passes for all international students coming to SMU. For full details on living expenses in Singapore, please refer to Contact Singapore website.
