Free Education for CommonWealth Medal Winners

Our government has decided to encourage sports talent in the country, the Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal has announced free education for students who win medals for India in the ongoing Commonwealth Games whether he/she is studying in CBSE or non-CBSE schools, colleges or universities.

Sibal said, the expenditure for college going students, including those pursuing professional courses, would be borne by the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) would pick up the tab for all those who are schools irrespective of whether they are in CBSE-affiliated institutions or not.

He alse said Our boys and girls are competing with sportspersons who have better infrastructure in their countries, and our boys are doing well. They are our heroes and the nation must go out of its way to support them.

Sibal has also advised the UGC and CBSE to formulate financial incentive schemes to support talented sportspersons and to strengthen the sports infrastructure in educational institutions in the country.
