The Department of Media Studies at Christ University is one of the most vibrant and academically rigorous centres of media higher education in India with the passion of honing students’ skills, knowledge and attitude for effective leadership in varied local, national and global media platforms. The CEP (The Communication and Media, English, Psychology) UG programme offers an eclectic mix – Introduction to Mass Communication, Critical Thinking, Print, Broadcast, Photography, Audio and Video Production, Event Management, Advertising, Public Relations, Software for Media, Strategic Storytelling, Introduction to Media Research, Reading Cinema, Media Culture and Ethics, Media Laws and Rights – as part of its syllabus, to facilitate a multi-faceted profile for the student and deal with an ever-changing media context.

The JPEng (Journalism, Psychology and English) UG programme offers a plethora of journalistic exposures - Introduction to Communication and Journalism, Contemporary India: Politics, Economics and Society, Reporting and Editing, Developmental Journalism, Magazine Journalism, Documentary Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Software for Multimedia Journalism, Media Laws and Ethics, Media Research, and Environmental Journalism – setting an ideal platform for launching the student into a competitive journalistic career. Internships, workshops, guest lectures etc. are built into the curriculum to promote diverse platforms of learning. In 2004, the postgraduate programme of the Department of Media Studies - MA in Media and Communication Studies - MAMCS was introduced, enabling the students to get a deep disciplinary knowledge, advanced media skills, and career-ready orientation.

The programme empowers students with plentiful opportunities and support to tackle real-life communication issues, deploy communication skills, gain socio-cultural sensitivity and build a strong base in the domain. With an innovative and contemporary curriculum, insistence on academic discipline, and guidance by qualified and experienced academicians, executives from the corporate sector, and experts from abroad to train the students, the programme ensures that it is one of the best in Asia. With a fine blend of academically rich courses - Communication Research Methodology, Communication and Media Theories, Dissertation, Digital Media and Society, Film Studies, Global Communication and Media Criticism- and experientially exciting courses like Photojournalism, Entrepreneurship, Corporate Communication and Public Relations, Computer Graphics and Web Designing, Print Journalism, Designing Principles and Visual Culture, Introduction to Theatre and Performing Arts, Advertising, Digital Video Production and Digital Audio Production, the programme propels the students prospects in both the higher education and professional domains. Developmental Journalism is one of the key courses, readily lending itself for a Service Learning opportunity in the mandatory NGO internship.
