Students of Class X of Ryan International School, Sector 49, Chandigarh, along with their parents, today staged a protest against the failure of the school in getting affiliation from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The agitating parents and students collected in front of the school, and raised slogans against the school principal, Poonam Sharma, and the school management .

Rakesh Verma, a parent, said, When I had admitted my two children to the school in November 2003, the principal had demanded a donation of Rs 10,000 per child, which I paid in March, 2004, after a conceession of Rs 3,000. I even paid the required admission fee in April same year. The principal, then, did not even once tell me that the school was not CBSE-affiliated.

Meanwhile, the parents have registered a complaint of fraud and cheating against the school manager Pinto, his wife and the principal.

Another parent said, I met the CBSE chairperson who told me that the school is at fault. The affiliation application, which was supposed to be filed two years back, was filed this year in December.

The parents will be meeting CBSE chairperson Ashok Ganguly in Delhi on Tuesday.

Sharma is, however, hopeful, I am very sure that we will get the affiliation, and students will sit for the exams, she said.

Meanwhile, the school has announced that Class X board practicals would be held on Feburary 7,8 and 9. As many as 81 students are to take the boards this year.

The school’s Ludhiana branch, too, is yet to get affiliation from the CBSE.
