Chandigarh, Feb 3 (IANS) A student from Haryana’s Panipat town Saturday got a laptop and an assured scholarship for higher studies from Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for topping the central board matriculation examination last year.

Vipul Gupta of DAV Public School was gifted a laptop by Hooda and his wife Asha.

The chief minister assured the topper that he would get a scholarship of Rs.100,000 annually for pursuing higher studies.

Vipul, who wants to pursue engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, and later wants to become a civil servant, topped last year’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) matriculation examination by securing 98.6 percent marks.

"He has made Haryana proud with his academic feat. Such students should be encouraged," Hooda said.

He said his government was focusing on the education sector and the budget for it had been considerably enhanced.
