Girls outstrip boys in CBSE results

Yet again, girls have outshone the boys in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) XII results, announced on Wednesday. In Maharashtra, girls outstripped boys with a pass per cent of 97.49 compared to 95.63 per cent for boys.

Roshini Bano from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Powai bagged the top position in Maharashtra with 98 per cent in the Science stream. She is also one of the toppers in Chennai zone comprising Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala and Daman. Around 5,000 students gave the exam from the Chennai zone in March.

Incidentally, Bano was also one of the top five rankers in all India tenth CBSE results. �She is very hardworking and a consistent student,� said her father SS Major, a physics professor with IIT, Powai. �I plan to pursue higher education in Science, so that I too can take up teaching and be a scientist like my father,� said an excited Bano. Other high scorers among girls are Simran Pradhan from Poddar High school with 96 per cent and Debjani Dey from Rajhans Vidya Mandir with 95.8 per cent.

In the commerce stream, it was Priya Kumar from Rajhans Vidya Mandir, Andheri who scored highest with 96.2 per cent. �I never expected to be among the highest scorers,� said Kumar. She scored 99 in maths and science and is looking forward to getting admission in NM or HR college. �I want to specialise in maths and accounts. I plan to follow in my father�s foot steps and become a qualified chartered accountant,� she added.

Maharashtra came second in all India with an overall 95.24 pass per cent. Pondicherry bagged the first position with a pass percentage of 98.
