The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken cognizance of the stress that students go through during examination. Hence, the board has educed ways to ensure that students can take exams smoothly sans the stress.

We understand that the exam centre is a completely different environment for students and they need to be at ease while attempting the paper. They are, therefore, given an additional 15 minutes before the examination begins to read the questions and fill in details such as the roll number, said Rama Sharma, spokesperson, CBSE.

To what is has named cooling period the CBSE has devised a way to reduce the chances of missing out on a question by students. According to the spokesperson of CBSE, Rama Sharma, students are given an additional 15 minutes before the examination begins to read the questions and fill in details such as the roll number. She believes that this is a cushion for those taking exams and can relive the stress among students.

Also, the students can complain to the examiner if they find a question is out of syllabus or is printed wrong or even if they find the paper lengthy.

Immediately after the half-yearly exam, they call parents of weak students and chart a course of action, she says. The idea is not to mount pressure on them, but to help them. We also have an in-house counsellor, she says.

For CBSE students like Shreyans Munoth who opted for the school-based exam in class X, this is the first board exam, he will be facing. When you study in a school that has consistently been producing results, you are expected to match up to it. But, there is no undue pressure. Our teachers have trained us so well that even if I wrote my accountancy paper tomorrow I can score over 90 per cent, he says.

While the State board examination for class X will begin on March 27, the higher secondary examination will begin in March 1. CBSE board-examination for class X will begin on March 2 and for class XII on March 1.
