To assist students with their career choices, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) launched its first ever Career Counselling and Guidance Centre in the country at Lakhimpur Kheri Tuesday.

Inaugurated by the Minister of State for Human Resource Development Jitin Prasada, also MP from Dhaurahra constituency of Lakhimpur Kheri, the centre will guide students of Classes X and XII.

The centre is open to students from all Boards across the country.

The counselling and guidance at the centre is free of cost; however, Rs 50 is to be charged for taking the SGAI test, the results of which can be obtained within a day. At least six camps will be organised between October to December in various UP districts to spread awareness about the centre.

The centre comes in the backdrop of Prasada asking Joshi this June to set up a student support centre and a teacher training institute in Lucknow as the region "has nothing for CBSE to say that they have done something for it."

With CBSE suggesting that students should choose subjects based on the evaluation provided by the Student’s Global Aptitude Index (SGAI), the Prasada and Joshi also unveiled the SGAI kit, containing all the essential paraphernalia for gaining clarity on the concept.
