The Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE) is considering to take steps to encourage use of special software for visually challenged students appearing in board exams. The Examination Committee at a meeting last year had passed resolutions regarding the Job Access With Speech software (JAWS), that will assist students in the std X and XII board exams starting this March.

However, CBSE has placed certain restrictions about which schools, parents and teachers need to be aware of.

Candidates desirous of using JAWS programme for appearing in Std X/XII examinations shall be required to bring their own computer along with JAWS software to the examination centre with prior intimation to the Board. Also, if students choose the option of using JAWS software then they won’t be provided with a writer.
