In a move for gender equity and empowerment of girls, CBSE has announced a nation-wide slogan writing competition. According to CBSE, the competition is part of the activities planned to celebrate the National Girl Child Day in 2013.

The competition is being organised by the National Mission for Empowerment of Women for school children in the age group of 14 to 18 years (Classes IX-XII).
The Centre declared January 24 as the National Girl Child Day in 2008, in order to imbue sensitivity in the society and remove prejudices against the girl child.

The board said, The support of all social and educational institutions is needed to disseminate the message that girls must be allowed to take birth. They must also get good care and education and be supported to become empowered citizens of this country with equal rights and opportunities.
CBSE has requested affiliated schools to encourage their students to take part in the event and to contribute in creating a gender sensitive society.

According to the ministry, the objective of this competition will be to suggest a new slogan for save the girl child. The slogans created by students will be used by the government to raise awareness on this issue.
