The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is giving one more chance to schools to provide the details of those candidates who wish to improve performance in the Problem Solving Assessment (PSA) in classes 10 and 12. The details for such candidates, if not provided earlier, can be submitted online by November 15.

The board has observed that while submitting the online list of candidates for classes 10 and 12 for the academic session 2013-14, many schools forgot to provide the details of candidates who wish to improve performance in PSA in classes 10 and 12. So the board decided to give one more chance to the schools.

With the objective of assessing students’ abilities to analyse given life situations, to comprehend and interpret written text and other essential higher order thinking skills, the board has decided to conduct the PSA for such candidates on January 18, 2014, along with the classes 9 and 11 candidates.

The CBSE-PSA will be counted towards FA-4, which is 10% of the total assessments of class 9. This assessment will also be carried forward towards the FA-4 in class 10. This score will be reflected in one language (English or Hindi), mathematics, science and social science with effect from the session 2012-13 for class 9 and from 2013-14 for class 10. The same score will be reflected in FA-4 for classes 9 and 10.

The students will have the option to improve their PSA score in class 10, as they can sit for the test with class 9 students of the session 2013-14 in January-February 2014. The best scores will be reflected in the final certificate in case of those applying for improvement.

Accordingly, in order to reiterate its decision for considering the best score, the schools are requested that if a candidate wishes to improve performance in PSA in classes 10 and 12, he may opt for the same along with online list of candidates for classes 10 and 12 for academic session 2013-14 by paying Rs. 100 per candidate.
