Three new vocational courses will be introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education in class 11 from the next session. The certification for these would be given jointly by the industry and CBSE. This was conveyed by the Chairman of CBSE Ashok Ganguly in Chandigarh, who came today to inaugurate the 7th National Roller Skating Competition being held at KBDAV, Sector 7, Chandigarh.

The courses are in financial transaction management, healthcare and fashion designing. Ganguly said, The courses are a part of professional competency education and would be in collaboration with the industry. The courses would be designed in such a manner that while the theoretical aspect would be taught in classrooms, practical training would be imparted in the industries.

Ganguly said that joint certification would be provided. Like it could be CBSE-CII certification, CBSE-Reliance certification or CBSE-NASSCOM certification. The evaluation of the papers for these subjects would be done jointly by the industry and faculty, he said.

Ganguly further said that changes have been introduced in class 10 examinations from this session. There would be 20 per cent internal assessment in mathematics and the science exam would be 60 per cent theoretical and 40 per cent practical, he said, explaining that the theory exams would also have a practical aspect. Multiple choice questions of 20 marks have been included in the science exam, he informed. Also, more options would be provided to students in the graduation courses and three more courses would be introduced in the 2008 session, he said, pointing out that a grading system would be introduced by the 2008 session.

It was stated that directions have been issued to schools, to reduce the work load of students, which in turn would reduce the psychological load on them. We have given the schools two years to comply with the directions. Failing which stern action would be taken against them.
