Example 2. The adjoining pie-chart represents the marks obtained by a student in an examination in english, hindi, science, social science and Mathematics. If the total marks obtained by the students were 720, find his percentage marks and marks in each subject.

Solution:- To solve this problem, we shall use table:

Subject Sector Angle Percentage Marks
English 550 55 X 100/360 = 15.3 55 X 720/360 = 110
Hindi 700 70 X 100/360 = 19.4 70 X 720/360 = 140
Science 800 80 X 100/360 = 22.2 80 X 720/360 = 160
Social science 650 65 X 100/360 = 18.1 65 X 720/360 = 130
Mathematics 900 90 X 100/360 = 25 90X720/360=180
Total 3600 100 720
